How To Live With All This

Let me begin by saying I definitely do not have all the answers; I do have a few suggestions that work for me - most of the time.

World events are absolutely overwhelming right now. It doesn't seem possible to have this many crises at once....and then add in personal challenges that may be even more difficult to process. However, only deep denial would allow anyone to ignore it all completely. For those of us who are empathic and/or live from an inner state of love and compassion, this experience can be exhausting mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I can feel many of you saying, "You can say that again!!" Ok, I will:     For those of us who are empathic and/or live from an inner state of love and compassion, this experience can be exhausting.

Here are my suggestions:

Meditate - Every day and however many times a day you feel the need. During the first 7 months of the pandemic, I faithfully meditated for 30 minutes every morning. I also did 5-15 minute meditations during the day and before bed. One day I sat down a total of 5 times in order to calm my frustrations, grief, and fears.

Maintain a fresh & healthy diet - Especially if you have challenges like blood sugar balance or weight (too thin is a weight issue also).

Exercise Regularly - Get a trainer if you need help getting started. Get outside and walk every day & when weather allows, more than once a day. Take a yoga and/or tai chi class. Mind/Body disciplines also support your meditation practice.

Adequate Sleep - This was my greatest challenge during all of this. Fortunately when I told my doctor I wasn't interested in medications, I was invited to attend a class that offered ways to improve sleep. It took a few months of faithful practice but it worked. 

Nurture Loving Relationships Be honest enough to evaluate relationships (family & friends) to be sure they are balanced, healthy, and positive-minded. It is a challenge to spend less time with someone who says they love you yet it may be necessary.

There Is Such A Thing As Too Much News - Your brain thinks what you are reading or watching is happening again. There is no past or future; there is only now.

Pick just one of these and give yourself time find your flow and to experience the benefits of your practice. Then try another one. The goal is a life that is peaceful in spite of all that is going on outside your own heart and home.
