Cause and Effect

All of the people in my young life were living from what I now call a "Western Mind." As a result the only time anyone used the word "Karma" was in the context of negative experiences generated by someone's choice(s). Most western religions were also teaching that we are born sinful and have to redeemed or saved in order to be a member of the family of God, whom I now call Divine Love. I never quite grasped how anyone could hold a newborn child and believe that child was starting life separated from its Creator, Who had to love that infant more than even a parent's heart and mind could grasp. I came into this life with a desire to explore these things more deeply and to be open to spiritual teachers from different belief systems or religions. Satisfying these burning desires has brought me to a Spiritual practice that feeds my Soul and that invites me to live from my True Self - a spiritual being currently having a human experience. This very simple definition of Karma that I learned from the teacher, Deepak Chopra, who certified me to teach and lead others in Primordial Sound Meditation, liberated me from a multitude of confusing beliefs that I was ready to let go of:

THE LAW OF "KARMA"

OR CAUSE AND EFFECT

Every action generates a force of energy

that returns to us in like kind . . .

what we sow is what we reap.

And when we choose actions that bring

happiness and success to others,

the fruit of our karma is happiness and success.

The Seven Spiritual Law of Success

by Deepak Chopra

The key to this for me was gaining the wisdom to understand that I am not responsible for another person's happiness, especially if that would require me to ignore my personal truth. In other words, if I would end up living contrary to my own spiritual path, my own highest good which is oneness with Divine Love, then I can simply listen and let them make their choices. In the moment that makes them happy. Time will tell both of us if those choices result in their higher good.

When I am living my truth, I am able to manifest love and compassion even when I am not in agreement with the beliefs and choices another person makes. In that sense, I am choosing to listen and express my love without needing to be right. I will also be in harmony with my True Self which respects the journey others are creating. I am trusting Divine Love to draw them to their own highest good just as I have been drawn to mine. This mantra is very useful/powerful in expanding into the true meaning and unfolding of Karma:

AUM KRIYAM NAMAH

My actions are aligned with Cosmic Law.

Karma is not about reward or punishment. Karma is about learning as we go.
